We need people to help us spread the word about our mission.

If you are thinking about posting to many of the tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of social media groups, and/or sending out mass-emailings, we recommend that you be certain you understand the etiquette and laws pertaining to these practices! Doing this the wrong way could not only result in your NROTC affiliate link being removed but your job with NROTC (If you have one) could be in jeopardy. We WANT you to post to your Facebook page, other social media groups and/or even send email to an email list from time, just as long as you do not post to groups too often, too quickly or send too many emails at a time. (spamming)

Who is the biggest kid on the block?… Just in case you are unaware… It’s FACEBOOK!… Many of our new Affiliates want to place ads on Facebook as well as other groups. We encourage this!… We have noticed that many people when first doing this find it a little confusing so here we want to try to help.

Before you continue reading below, we want to inform you that NROTC has a FACEBOOK GROUP FOR NROTC AFFILIATES where you can learn more. Join up after you finish your reading here at:

YOUR NROTC AFFILIATE CONTROL PANEL:

When inside your Contol Panel, click “Creatives”. You will see “Your Affiliate Link Using Affiliate ID”. It will look something like this: http://www.nrotc.org/?wpam_id=1 (Don’t use this one – Use your own)

Use this to send anyone to NROTC via your “Affiliate Link”.

You will also see a number of “Creatives” that we have available to you. Some are text and others are images. Feel free to use any of these by pasting “Your Affiliate-Specific HTML snippet” into your webpage or other webpages that allow you to do this.

“Image” snippets allow you to HIDE your Affiliate link inside the image so it does not show as an obvious Affiliate link. Just click any of our “Image” creatives in your “Control Panel” to get your snippet. Feel free to substitute any image file inside the snippet with another image file. You will only need very basic html skills to do this.

Here’s the CATCH!… “Your Affiliate-Specific HTML snippet” is code for pasting into a webpage. It is NOT what want you want to use for FACEBOOK and many other instances!

Here is how you want to do it with FACEBOOK and most other social media groups:

A Text Link Example: Enter a post on your personal page. You might want to say something like “Hey friends… I found a great organization that supports our veterans and veteran families in need. Maybe you can help them with a donation. Please visit (Add your Affiliate Link Here)

*Use any wording you want but please do NOT over-exaggerate or misrepresent NROTC! You can also combine text AND images.

You can now “SHARE” this post with your Facebook friends and others.

Image Links: With most social media groups you will post your text and images separately. Post your images as IMAGES ONLY, without any embedded code. We suggest you download our images to your computer into a special folder that you create. Right-Click to save any image.

Where To Post Your Ads:

Again, FACEBOOK is the big kid on the block and there are others. Search for military, veteran, veteran support, patriotic and various other groups to join. Join these groups and post away! If you are inexperienced with some of this just experiment with it and before you know it you’ll be posting like a pro.

All Social Media Websites have “Terms of Use” agreements pertaining to posting limitations. Be certain you are familiar with these rules and abide by them otherwise you can have your posting privileges temporarily suspended or even revoked!

Most people have heard that emailing or “SPAMMING” on the internet, or the use of “UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL”, (UCE) is illegal and it certainly can be but yet almost every major company and many others are doing it (Some legal – Some not)… Why?… Because It Works!!!

Just what are the LAWS?…

The CAN-SPAM Act, (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003) – enforced by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have you stop emailing them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.

DOING EMAIL MARKETING CORRECTLY REQUIRES COMPLYING WITH THE LAW:

THE FEDERAL CAN-SPAM LAW FOR THE MOST PART PROHIBITS UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL EMAIL MESSAGES!… HOWEVER… THE CAN-SPAM LAW ALSO STATES CLEARLY THAT: A charity’s request for donations is NOT considered a commercial message.”AND NOT CONSIDERED AS SPAM!!!… This nonprofit exemption gives nonprofits the right to advertise their mission via bulk email marketing and still be within the letter of the law.

USE OUR RECOMMENDED SYSTEM TO SEND 5,000 EMAILS PER DAY!
(This is 208 emails per hour. You can send more… or less)

208 emails per hour X 24 hours = 5,000 EMAILS PER DAY X 7 days = 35,000 EMAILS PER WEEK!

YOUR TIME REQUIREMENT IS ABOUT 15 MINUTES PER DAY!

HOW MUCH CAN YOU EARN?… Let’s take a look:

NROTC makes no income claims or promises. The above is for illustrative purposes only. NROTC Earnings Are Capped – To comply with IRS nonprofit organization guidelines, no person can earn more than a reasonable amount for services compared with similarly situated profit and nonprofit organizations. This means that no person can earn more than $2,000 per week, $8,666 per month or $104,000 per year. Any overage commissions are lost and do not accrue.

DIFFERENT EMAIL PROVIDERS HAVE DIFFERENT EMAIL LIMITS.

You may want to consider having a separate email provider for the sending of your emails.

BE SURE TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE EMAIL LIMITATIONS ARE WITH ANY EMAIL PROVIDER AND BE SURE NOT TO EXCEED THOSE LIMITS. You might need to shop several email providers for the best allowable limits and prices. You may also want to consider outsourcing your emailing. These emailing services are typically fee based.

YOUR EMAIL LIST:

Please do NOT go overboard purchasing your email list! THERE IS RISK!… If your email campaign does not work, you will be out-of-pocket for the cost of your list!

Unless you already have an email list you will probably need to purchase one first so before you begin you are already in-the-hole for the cost of your email list. NROTC does NOT provide you with lists. There are many list sources available. There is always a cost factor involved with a good list. A free list is usually junk. Warning: You can lose money purchasing a bad list and you will not know until you have purchased it and emailed to it. A word of advice is to start small and test… test… test.

If you are doing everything correctly you can expect a conversion rate (Number of donations per emails) to be somewhere between one out of one thousand (or less) and one out of one hundred. Go into this knowing that your conversion rate could be less than one out of one thousand! We know this is a very wide spread. Your success depends on many factors. The targeting and quality of your email list is a major factor!

EMAILING:

Your email “subject line” text and the wording of your email message is critical. Again… Start small and test… test… test.

Your average donation amount may vary depending on if you have done any financial targeting of your list example home owners, age range etc. Older people tend to donate better.

If you are new to email marketing we strongly recommend that you do much “Googling” and reading on the internet first! NROTC is NOT responsible for any financial loses you may incur as a result of your emailing activity or the cost of your email list/lists!

A Word of Caution: Do NOT believe everything an email list provider may tell you about how great their email list is!

NROTC does not permit anyone who has been given an official NROTC email address to use it to send more than 100 emails per day. Anyone doing “Affiliate Bulk Email Marketing” MUST USE THEIR PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS!

OTHER CAN-SPAM ACT REQUIREMENTS:

blackstarAll e-mails must come from a legitimate, active e-mail address. If the recipient hits “Reply” and responds to the message, the answer should go to an in-box that is monitored, not just disappear into cyberspace.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSURING THAT ALL “REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST” REQUESTS ARE HANDLED PROPERLY! Be prepared for many “Remove Me From Your List” requests. Be sure to record each of them and DO NOT email them a second time!… This could get you in serious trouble with the FTC!!!

While there are other Bulk Email Programs, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE PIMEX. IT SENDS 500 EMAILS PER HOUR WITH A FEW SIMPLE CLICKS: The Free Version will not work for what we do. The PIMEX program cost is $39.95 and we make no money referring you. Maybe you can find a free program that will accomplish the same results… If you do, please let us know.

YOUR DAILY TIME REQUIREMENTS:

Once each day, take about ten minutes to send 5,000 emails!

blackstarImportant – Make sure you “DELAY” setting is set at (for example) 8 Seconds between sending emails. This setting will now at most be sending 450 emails per hour. Well within an hourly limit of 500 emails per hour if your email provider permits it. You may need to adjust this accordingly depending on your email provider’s limitations.

REMARKETING:

NROTC does NOT give up on a website visitor on their first visit!… Many studies have concluded that people do not always purchase or donate when they visit a website for the first time, therefore, having a way to reconnect with a website visitor can prove to be invaluable.

NROTC does this two ways the First being our email subscriber list. Visitors are given the option of joining our email list and from time to time we will contact them by email giving them an update on our activity and reminding them of another opportunity to donate. Second, when someone visits our website we insert a tiny piece of code, (a pixel), into their computer, which allows us to track their future internet activity and based on this activity, periodically NROTC will show-up on their computer again with an invite to visit our website!… This is especially true on FACEBOOK!

MOST SUCCESSFUL ONLINE MARKETERS USE REMARKETING TO GREAT ADVANTAGE!

WHY IS REMARKETING IMPORTANT: We do not want New Affiliates to become too easily discouraged if the results of their initial Affiliate Marketing Campaign produce less than expected results. Please remember that new donors often need to be cultivated and it may several invites before they actually make their donation. Please keep in mind that we are aware of this and we are proactive cultivating every new NROTC visitor to become a donor by seeing to it that once they visit our website, they haven’t seen the last of NROTC so hang in there and keep prospecting. Your results will improve over time.

ALSO REMEMBER, Your Affiliate Cookie stays in their computer for one year unless they clear their cookies.
