According to the latest U.S. Department of Defense figures, at this writing, there have been 32,977 who
have been wounded. Of the wounded, 15,010 could not return to duty. Many have sustained permanent debilitating injury.
Today NROTC is expanding our mission to provide aid to our hospitalized servicemembers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Many of these wounded are in pretty bad shape. They are amputees, burn and gunshot victims, and those who have lost sight
or hearing and/or suffered serious brain trauma due to roadside bombs. We pick them up from their homes and military hospitals and
shuttle them to sporting events and places such as restaurants, golf courses, bowling alleys, movie theaters, VFW and American Legion
Posts to show them a good time. Patrons at these events and places get a chance to honor them and thank them for their service and
sacrifice… and let them know they are appreciated. This show of support by others as we get them out to mix with the public, many for
the first time after sustaining their injuries in battle, helps them, in their immediate recovery AND… on an ongoing basis after these
wounded have returned home!
Let's never allow any hospitalized servicemember to feel as though they have been forgotten! We earnestly ask you to help us, help them, during their recuperative time of need AND… on an ongoing basis!... They really deserve our support!
Today most of our efforts are centered around Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, (Formerly known as Bethesda Naval Hospital) and Fort George G. Meade, all in the Washington D.C. area. Soon we hope to have a fleet of donated Para-Transit Buses, volunteer drivers and caregivers throughout America.
