Neither our government nor the military provide these banners to families. While service banners are available for purchase from
several sources, we do not believe that a family member of anyone serving our country in the military during a time of war should
ever have to purchase a Service Banner!
To date, NROTC has provided over 600 free Service Banners to deserving loved ones of our armed forces personnel. Agreed this is not
a great accomplishment by many standards, but it is a big accomplishment for an organization who has just surpassed their third year
as a legitimate nonprofit organization.
NROTC has set a goal of seeing that ONE family member of every trooper serving or trooper who died or was KIA during this current
conflagration, receives either a "Blue Star" or "Gold Star" Service Banner! We obviously hope that the overwhelmingly greatest
majority of these banners will have blue stars. The Department of Defense states that there are over 1,300,000 military service members on
active duty today. DoD also states that, as is planned, 200,000 more military troops will rotate into the battle each year, to replace
the military troops who rotate out. This means that over the next five years, the number of troops committed will easily exceed 2
million.
We are pleased to report that a growing number of local municipalities and community organizations including local VFW and American
Legion Posts, are finally picking up the ball and are also providing free Service Banners to families who live in their area. We
applaud their efforts!
NROTC takes great pride and considers it an honor to do our part along with these other groups, in providing these Service Banners to
the military family members, who go to bed every night praying for their loved one's safe return.
We do not view these other groups as competitors but as partners! We need them! We wish there were more! NROTC cannot give a Service
Banner to every qualified loved one of every military trooper. We have a limit of ONE Service Banner to ONE loved one of each service
member. If there are other qualified loved ones in your family, please contact your local government and local veterans groups
to see if any of them can also honor your loved one with a free Service Banner.
We hope that by tens of thousands, soon hundreds of thousands, eventually over two million of these banners proudly flying in the
windows of local community homes and main street businesses, more public awareness and patriotic fervor will be created in communities
throughout the entire nation.
We are truly touching people every time we provide a free Service Banner. Read our Service Banner recipient comments...
