If you haven't subscribed yet, please do so. As a subscriber, you will be informed monthly on our charitable activity. Its easy, just look for the sign up area on the left margin of our website. We are still a very new organization. In March 2006 it was our honor to fulfill 19 Blue Star Service Banner requests. Two of these banners had two stars. Also this month it was our extreme honor to deliver 5 gold star service banners to the surviving families of the following brave troopers: U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder, age 20, of Finksburg, Md., Cmbt Svc. Spt. Gp. 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I MEF - On Friday, March 10, 2006, I attended the church memorial service, funeral procession and burial service. The Marine Corps casualty assistance calls officer, CACO, made the Gold Star Service Banner presentation on behalf of the NROTC and caring Americans everywhere. Both memorial services and the funeral procession were attended by nearly 100 members of the Patriot Guard Riders. U.S. Army National Guard PFC Samuel Bowen, age 38, of Cleveland, Ohio, 216th Engineer Battalion U.S. Army PFC Amy Duerksen, age 19, of Temple, Texas, 4th Combat Support Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Div. U.S. Army PFC Duane Longstreth, age 19, of Tacoma, Washington, B Co., 307th Engineer Battalion U.S. Army SSG Robert Thornton Jr., age 35, of Rainbow City, Alabama, 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Div. May they rest in heavenly eternal peace. Immediately below is a list of the homes that are now proudly displaying a Blue Star Service Banner. We pray that your loved ones return home safe, and soon. For privacy reasons and as a matter of military secrecy, we do not publish the names, only the addresses. Thank you for reading. That is all, Tom Ruley, President, NROTC
Special Note: On June 2nd, 2006 NROTC decided that in order to further protect all of our service banner donees from anyone, including domestic terrorists who may want to do them harm, that we will no longer publish their actual street number. We have gone back into our five previous "The NROTC News" newsletters including this issue and deleted the street numbers. Due to the fact that we are at war and not everyone supports our troops, we believe we have made the right decision.
