Issue #14, SEPTEMBER 2007 Issue Date: September 11th, 2007 Total Active Subscribers: 51 From: Tom Ruley, Founder and President, NROTC Dear Readers, On this, the sixth anniversary of the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as the foiled terrorist plot aboard United flight number 93, we mournfully and respectfully remember the deaths of those 2,973 Americans who perished on that fateful day. The events of 9/11 are familiar to all Americans. Perhaps so much so that over time we have become desensitized to the actual events.
We pledge to Never Forget! This newsletter is viewed by the general public entering from our website and is emailed directly to our subscribers. If you haven't subscribed yet, please do so. As a subscriber, from time to time you will be informed on our charitable activity. Its easy, just look for the sign up area on the left margin of page one of our website. Okay so let me try to summarize our activities since our last newsletter in July. For those of you who may be familiar and those who are not, since the granting of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in November 2005, our fundraising efforts have not been as successful as what we had hoped. While we have already tried a number of different fundraising approaches, we have just embarked on a new idea and have booked our first ever, Military Charity and Fallen Hero Memorial... Golf Tournament! Our golf outings are very special!... Each hole is played in honor of one of our local fallen heroes. A custom imprinted Gold Star Service Banner with ONE of their names will fly from each pin. We do our best to contact and invite every family of those who have been lost, to our tournament, as our guests. The Gold Star Families will be invited to bring lawn chairs and sit near the green at each hole honoring their loved one. As players play through, they will be able to meet the Gold Star family members who are in attendance, and express to them, their gratitude and expressions of compassion. Most importantly, during our "Special" Awards Dinner later this day, the tournament play Gold Star Service Banners will then be personally presented the Gold Star families. We also present every military family in attendance with a Blue Star Service Banner. Our first event is scheduled for Annapolis, Maryland, home of the U.S. Naval Academy, on October 5th, 2007. We are planning many more golf tournaments to be held throughout the USA. Our next two are planned for Fort Lauderdale in December, 2007 and Don Shula's Golf Course in Miami in February 2008. Finally, let us not forget the 3,753 (at this writing), who have died in service to our country so far during this Global War on Terrorism. Two hundred and eight 18 hole NROTC golf tournaments will allow us to dedicate a hole to each fallen hero and present each family with a tournament play Gold Star Service Banner. By the time we run these 208 tournaments, who knows how many more tournaments we will have to run. We invite you to participate in any of our upcoming "Open" charity golf tournaments which we plan to hold throughout the USA. Please visit our website often to keep up to date on our national tournament schedule as new outings are booked. NATIONAL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE We remember also our 26,558 who have been wounded so far. Our hearts go out to them, their families and caregivers. We hope our charity golf events will allow us to do even more to help these brave men and women one day. We pray that all of our active duty troops will return home safely to their families and friends at the end of their patriotic tours of duty. There can be no doubt that NROTC is accomplishing a very worthwhile goal if only in a small way compared to the tremendous overall need. If any of you reading have any doubt at all, please read: What Our Service Banner Recipients Are Saying Please remember our troops and their families and try to do something,... anything... to honor their service and sacrifice. Help us financially if you can. If you work in private industry, please ask your employer to support us. If you are a veteran, ask your local VFW or American Legion Post to support us. Consider volunteering some of your time or becoming a commissioned NROTC Golf Event Coordinator. Click the "Become A Representative" link on our website. To our 51 current subscribers and other readers, I ask another important favor. Vote for us on R. Lee Ermey's website! Just click the banner at the bottom of this newsletter. As our regular subscribers are aware, this newsletter is also our medium for documenting the good work that we do. Below here you will read a list of recent service banner donees. For privacy and military secrecy reasons, we are unable to provide actual names or exact street addresses. On August 9th we mailed out 16 Blue Star Service Banners. On September 4th we mailed out 16 Blue Star Service Banners and one Gold Star Service Banner. Thank you for reading and thank you for voting for us on R. Lee Ermey's website! That is all. Yours in freedom,
