We see to it that a number of “Thank You For Your Service” Cards are sent to military bases within your local area and a number of “Get Well Soon” cards are sent to military and VA hospitals within your local area. You can even do us a big favor by distributing these cards for us! Take these cards to your local military bases and/or veteran facilities or hospitals. Hand them out personally, take pictures and send these pictures to us also!
FUNDRAISING IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO OUR MISSION!
POLITELY ASK PEOPLE AT YOUR TABLE FOR A DONATION TO HELP VETERANS IN NEED!
HOW WE HELP OUR VETERANS:
NROTC works to provide assistance to those who have served honorably, who have met with hard times, who could use a helping hand.
WHY IS FUNDRAISING IMPORTANT?
Donations are the life’s blood of many charities including NROTC. According to The National Council of Nonprofits, “Most charitable nonprofits rely upon the generosity of donors for some or all of their funding. Consequently, fundraising is an activity of major importance to the nonprofit sector.”
According to The Institute for Human Services, “All nonprofits rely on volunteers to accomplish the work they do.
According to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), about 154,000 Veterans are homeless on a typical night in America. Over the course of a year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness.
According to The National Coalition For Homeless Veterans, the most effective programs for homeless and at-risk veterans are nonprofit groups.
Government money, while important, is limited, and available services are often at capacity. It is critical, therefore, that nonprofit groups reach out to help provide the support, resources and opportunities that most Americans take for granted.
NROTC IS COLLABORATING WITH THE VA and other government agencies, to reach out and help, to the best of our ability, ANY VETERAN, MILITARY OR VETERAN FAMILY IN NEED!
NROTC believes that no veteran or military family, especially a military family with young children involved, should ever find themselves living on the streets due to lack of transportation, meaningful employment or government assistance.
WHENEVER YOU ARE CONDUCTING A FUNDRAISING EVENT, NROTC provides for expense reimbursement for certain expenses such as mileage at 25 cents per mile to and from your home, road tolls, initial table supplies, additional table supplies, any table setup or registration fees that may be charged by any event promoter and gratuity items purchased from NROTC or any other vendor.
Any and all reimbursements are limited to 25% of your donation container and receipts are required.
After your fundraising event is complete, count out your donations… Subtract your authorized expenses including mileage reimbursement… Obtain a MONEY ORDER for the difference and send it by mail along with your completed Tracking Sheet (Below) to NROTC… along with your:
* Receipts for expenses (mileage reimbursement receipts not required)
* Any signed cards you received (Unless you are going to distribute them yourself)
NROTC also requires you to report the results of your fundraiser online at:
Get yourself a portable collapsible table if you don’t have one. NROTC does not provide these.
Use a plastic pretzel jar or something similar as your donation container. Affix the “Donate Here” graphic that you will find below to it.
Above is a nice donation container that you can purchase online for only $6.95 plus shipping at DisplaysToGo.com
Affix one of our 8.5 x 11 graphics, (below) to the front and our “Donate Here” graphic to the top and you are good to go.
These mini-clipboards are great for your card-signing table
(Available at most office supplies stores)
If you want, NROTC will coach you on how to schedule table setups from the comfort of your home… Its easy!
*To find places where you can obtain permission to setup your donation table, go to: www.yellowpages.com and search “Grocery Stores”, “Walmart”, “Sam’s Club” or whatever, in the area you plan on working.
*Or GOOGLE “Grocery Stores”, “Events and Fairs” in (State, City or whatever)” … You will not run out of places to call!
You should be able to find some good events within easy traveling distance at EventLister.com
There are many local community, county-wide and state-wide FACEBOOK GROUPS that focus on local events and festivals and such. Search Facebook for these groups and you find many events and event promoters to contact. Try search terms similar to “Events (Cities and Counties in your area)”.
We typically use the following “TABLE SETUP PERMISSION FORM” as a written confirmation of any table setup booking. It is typically faxed or emailed to a store manager or event promoter immediately after scheduling a setup. Most of these store managers and event promoters use their fax often so having fax capability from home will be a big advantage to you.
Emailing your Permission Form works but this means you will need to scan your completed Permission Form and email attach it.
Regular Snail Mail Works: If you do not have fax capability a good solution is to just send this form in the mail. They will have it in a day or two.
Some store managers and event promoters like to verify that we are a legitimate nonprofit organization and like to include our “IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter” consisting of two pages along with our Permission Form.
With each Permission Form, we suggest you also enclose our “FLYER”. You can also use it as a table display card or have them available on your table as a handout.
Here is a nice 48″ wide Table Banner – that you can print from your computer using 6 pieces of paper or cardstock. (We recommend cardstock for better results) Tape them together or glue them to posterboard. This is a nice way to create your table banner at practically no cost.
Helpful Hint: When printing your pages adjust your printer settings to “Print Borderless”.
Inside this download is also a 11″ X 48″ graphic file that you can take to any printer or most office supplies stores and have them make a banner for you.
Have a smaller table? – Print this 36″ wide table banner from your computer using 4 pieces of paper or cardstock. Adjust your printer settings to “Print Borderless”. Inside this download is also a 8.5″ X 36″ graphic file that you can take to any printer or most office supplies stores and have them make a banner for you.
Optional for your table: – Purchase an inexpensive three-ring binder and a pack of three-ring plastic page protectors. Open the file below and print out our prospectus pages. Insert our pages into your plastic page protectors and insert these pages into your binder. When someone at your table wants to know more about NROTC, flipping through these pages makes it much easier to show someone who we are and what we do. Having our “Prospectus Book” on your table is highly recommended.
This is a .zip file. It’s a huge file. It will take some time to download. You will need to unzip it.
What you say to people at your table is mostly up to you as long as you are being courteous, not too aggressive and not misrepresenting NROTC.
Please study here on our website to internalize who we are and what we do. This way you will be able to speak with authority about us and answer questions people may ask properly.
Here is some suggested verbiage to use at your table:
Welcome to (Name of store or event) today.
We’re sending “Thank You” cards to our troops and “Get well Soon” to hospitalized veterans. Can you take a moment to sign one here? (holding card)
We’re collecting for our homeless and disadvantaged veterans. Can you help?
Come on (Name of town)… Let’s show our troops and veterans we care.
When they come up to your table you might want to say;
(Or just let them drop a donation in your box. Many will)
If you ever wanted to thank our troops and veterans, here’s your chance.
(hand them a card) Write something in your own words. Make it come from your heart.
Tell ’em thanks, offer some encouragement, Let ’em know we support ’em from here at home.
Please sign your card and include your hometown and State.
Other things you might want to say;
We work to combat depression, PTSD and suicide. Did you know we lose 18 troops and recently returning vets to suicide. This is why boosting morale is so important and this is why we are here today. Think it out a little and write something really good here okay. (Hand them a card and pen, or clipboard)
We appreciate anything you can do. (Point to donation container)
When it comes to supporting troops and veterans, we can never ask for too much. The amount is up to you. Can you help out a little today?
Occasionally, a donor will ask for a receipt.
DOWNLOAD OUR DONOR RECEIPT
(Use carbon paper. Give one to donor. Send other to NROTC.)
On the bottom these you will notice there is a tear off and return with your donation portion. Write your name on the back of the return portion and get a 30% commission on donations that arrive to us by mail from these. Print out and hand out as many of these as you want!
DOWNLOAD OUR 2″ PEAL AND STICK LABEL TEMPLATE
(20 per 8.5 inch x 11 inch page)
Never embarrass yourself by asking someone to donate twice. Purchase 2,000 blank labels online for about $17.00 and print these out. Give every donor one of these to stick on their shirt. This helps you another way because other people at your event will see these and this may encourage them to donate.

NROTC is all about getting cards signed by good Americans and sent to our troops and hospitalized veterans. Having gratuity items on your table IS NOT REQUIRED and there is no need to go overboard with this. You will find that many people will be happy to donate to NROTC without expecting anything in return.
NROTC recommends that you have a few inexpensive gratuity items such as candies, flag lapel pins or key chains on your table… to offer a potential donor as an incentive or a way of saying “Thank You”.
YOU ARE NOT SELLING ANYTHING!!!
This is an acceptable procedure according to IRS rules but be certain to offer a gift in the proper manner.
SAY… We’ll be glad to give you this “Keychain or Whatever” as our way of saying THANK YOU… for your very generous donation.
DON’T SAY… Keychains are $5.00 each… Got it?
If someone says “That’s too much”… You reply with… “Its a donation that helps homeless and disadvantaged veterans and their families”. “This gift is just our way of saying Thank You”.
You determine your own dollar amount you want before giving a gratuity item!
HERE ARE A FEW GREAT SUPPLIERS AND SPECIFIC PRODUCT LINKS:
Purchase direct from supplier online – We are not in the business of making money selling these items to you.
Make your donation table fun and more interactive. Attract and hold more donors. Increase Donation Amounts!… with this Prize Wheel! Write in certain gratuity items with your erasable magic marker or tape your gratuity items to the wheel. Let your donors ““SPIN THE WHEEL”… to see what gratuity item they receive! The cost of this wheel is reimbursable.
