The title above refers to a new NROTC Program that has a double meaning. NROTC as a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity
is eligible to accept non-monetary as well as monetary donations and issue tax-deductable receipts to its donors. NROTC is
actively seeking certain non-monetary or "In Kind" donations such as vehicles, vessels and computers.
These donations and/or funding from other sources will allow NROTC to provide employment and temporary housing to a number of
homeless needy Veterans who are currently being housed at Maryland's largest nearly 200 bed temporary housing and rehabilitative
facility, The Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training, known as McVets, which is located in Baltimore, Maryland. McVets
is providing a tremendous service for many of Baltimore's unfortunate and forgotten Veterans, and they welcome those who can provide
decent housing and employment opportunities to Veterans in need. Learn more about
McVets.
McVets is a very rigid rehabilitative program that starts basically as Boot
Camp and no unnecessary leave from the premises is granted. As the inductees progress through the program successfully, little by little,
leave time and/or time away for employment is allowed.
NROTC also reaches out to help any needy Veteran in addition to McVets participants.
This program is somewhat ALL ENCOMPASSING and a little difficult to explain in a sentence. So please just continue reading.
FIRST: NROTC accepts vehicle and vessel donations, as well as other property including RV's, motorcoaches and computers.
SECOND: We employ Veterans to rehab these assets to functional condition where required.
THIRD: We either sell these assets to the public, OR, we make these assets available to qualified needy Veterans
at little or NO COST!
These assets can be valuable to needy Veterans in several ways:
If all goes well, we are also in the process of acquiring the 1889 Steamboat Sidewheeler, Lang Syne.
Lang Syne is REALLY VERY ROOMY INSIDE AND THERE ARE TWO FLOORS!
After she is restored, temporary housing, employment, counseling and job skills training such as food preparation, seamanship and boat
handling will be provided to these recovering veterans.
