Help Veterans Who Are Homeless Or In Need -

National Remember Our Troops Campaign

has a ten year history of helping veterans in need. Help us with a donation or apply for veterans emergency financial aid here

YES… There are 15,000 Wounded Heroes Out There…
We do our part to help them and we applaud the efforts of other groups.

There are also over 154,000 veterans who are homeless on a typical night in America.

Over the course of a year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness. Nearly 20 percent of military service members who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, (300,000 in all), report symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, (PTSD) or major depression. Government money is limited and many veterans have fallen through the cracks. Suicides among active-duty troops and recently returning veterans is now an alarming 18 per day.

FOR ACTIVE-DUTY SERVICEMEMBERS, GUARD, RESERVE, MILITARY & VETERAN FAMILIES

In today’s tough economic times, many of our servicemembers, veterans and their families, particularly those who have been recently deployed, through no fault of their own, find themselves unemployed, under-employed, homeless or AT-RISK of being homeless.

Often overlooked is the military spouse or military family who may be living on base, off base or miles from their loved-one serving… who may also be in dire need of help and support. NROTC wants to help these families also, especially the young mom with young children involved.

*UTILITY BILL TURN-OFF NOTICES

ABOUT HOMELESS VETERANS

Who are homeless veterans?

According to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), about 154,000 Veterans are homeless on a typical night. Over the course of a year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness. Only 7% of the general population can claim veteran status, but nearly 13% of the homeless adult population are veterans.

Why are veterans homeless?

In addition to the complex set of factors influencing all homelessness – extreme shortage of affordable housing, livable income and access to health care – a large number of displaced and at-risk veterans live with lingering effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse, which are compounded by a lack of family and social support networks. Additionally, military occupations and training are not always transferable to the civilian workforce, placing some veterans at a disadvantage when competing for employment.

Doesn’t VA take care of homeless veterans?

To a certain extent, yes. Each year, VA’s specialized homelessness programs provide health care to almost 150,000 homeless veterans and other services to more than 112,000 veterans. Additionally, more than 40,000 homeless veterans receive compensation or pension benefits each month. Other government agencies are also providing support. However, there are many in need who… Fall through the cracks!

Since 1987, VA’s programs for homeless veterans have emphasized collaboration with such community service providers to help expand services to more veterans in crisis.

What seems to work best?

According to The National Coalition For Homeless Veterans, the most effective programs for homeless and at-risk veterans are community-based nonprofit groups.

Government money, while important, is limited, and available services are often at capacity. It is critical, therefore, that community groups reach out to help provide the support, resources and opportunities that most Americans take for granted.

This is where NROTC comes in!

NROTC’s EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID & ASSISTANCE PROGRAM is our attempt to help those veterans who have honorably served, and who through no fault of their own, have met with hard times.

THESE GRANTS ARE PROVIDED WITH NO REPAYMENT EXPECTED OR REQUIRED!

There is a qualification process and grants can only be awarded when funds are available.

NROTC receives no government funding and our financial resources are limited to the amount of donations we receive from generous, patriotic and caring Americans throughout the USA. In many cases, we are able to help a needy veteran, BY PROVIDING AN EMERGENCY CHECK… to make a delinquent rent or mortgage payment, a utility payment or a car loan payment to get someone back and forth to work etc.

NROTC receives vehicle donations from across the USA and we have been able to provide basic transportation autos to veterans below fair market value and in some cases, for free.

Unlike most if not all government agencies, NROTC is often able to make these payments or provide these vehicles quickly without red-tape… after a simple application and investigative process.

No veteran or military family, especially a military family with young children involved, should ever find themselves living on the streets due to lack of transportation, meaningful employment or government assistance.

If you know of a veteran in need, a military or veteran family in need, please refer them to this page.

If you ARE a veteran in need, we want to help you and/or your family if we can. NROTC may be able to help in TWO WAYS:
